Apes, monkeys, gorillas... they were fairly popular in the past. Not as much now. I'd venture to say that the fascination with primates has more to do with their similarity to man than any direct connection to King Kong or slavery. I mean, as a kid, I thought it was hilarious to see monkeys dressed in business suits and wearing glasses.
Popular culture has moved on, though. Now it's obsessed with zombies, mostly. And vampires.
I've never really understood the current fascination with zombies. I mean, I enjoy The Walking Dead, and I've been introduced to earlier zombie movies, but I still don't get what's so great about them. Is it our need to always have an utterly evil "other" to punch, kill, and massacre? In a global world, where it's unfashionable to root for your own people group's domination of others, and where there's a global culture emerging between people from many nations, do we need an "other" to focus all our fear and rage upon?
And what about all the sex stuff surrounding vampires? I mean, I like seeing vampires get killed as much as the next person, but I've never liked the vampire stories where they're romanticized and sexualized.

I like White Wolf's version of vampires. All the politics and intrigue. The newer takes on it would have been fine, but I didn't like all the romance and sexual stuff. I liked Tom Cruise's version of Lestat, though.

Huh. Never thought about LOTR as being anti-Semitic before. Suppose the same thinking applies to Klingons?

Antisemitism never seemed to be Tolkien's game. Tolkien was anti-Hitler and wrote a quietly outraged letter that declined recruitment by Nazi propagandists. But I did find this article, which I will lazily quote from:
Tolkien's version of dwarves were influenced by Jewish culture, but they did not serve as an allegory.
For Klingons, I'm not strong in the trek fu, can't have an opinion on that. They're obviously a mixture of proud warriors and noble savages, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to pinpoint the ingredients.
To Neilencio, I believe scapegoating can be neutralized in a scenario where all pacifistic entities can sustain their objectives long enough to outlast all logistics of caustic aggression and its sources. In less words. So PROBABLY NOT, LAWL
Chinese people are next on the list. I blame their rapidly growing economy, who do they think they are trying to have a standard of living where even the povertous are often obese.
