Yeah, so far I'm not impressed with the Russian's performance.
What a snooze fest!
The introduction of the countries is up now...

i found the opening ceremonies a little ... creepy. i'm not picking up the sense of joy & wonder from the crowd you'd expect. i'm planning on watching a bunch of it this weekend. if, or rather when, vlad takes his shirt off i don't want to miss it

I'm surprised Putin didn't have a big cast of his head up there, too.

We were at my mother-in-law's last night and watched the whole thing while we were there.
She's in her early 70's and she kept commenting on the fact that Putin never smiled. She wanted to know why they all (other than the Russian athletes) liked so uptight/unhappy.
In my worst Russian accent I said,"They are Russian. You're not supposed to show happiness."
She laughed.

I think it's just something about that part of the world. When I was staying in Germany for the summer back in the 90s, the person I was staying with told me not to smile so much while I was out. People would think I was retarded.

Bjoerndalen Sets Records With 7th Gold, 12th Medal, in Biathlon
the 40 y.o. russian is the oldest ever winner of an individual biathlon competition at the olympics. tough old man
maybe it's the reason putin is smiling! damn, even scarier than when he's not smiling
notice his name is on his jacket so no one will mistake it for their own & take it? talk about signing your own death warrant
