A doctor of fine arts that is
ben affleck Doctor's dergee in fine artsWho would have thought that Ben Affleck would make it this far? Sunday was the day that former Jenny of the block beau received an honorary doctor’s degree in fine arts from Ivy league university Brown. It’s not that he doesn’t deserve this honor. He has certainly worked hard for it and created some incredible gems like: “Gone baby gone” (2012) and the recent “Argo” (2012) which earned him the honor of receiving a British BAFTA, Golden Globe, the producers guild award and above all: The Academy Award for best picture.
He had the following to say about directing and his motivation for it: ” After 2000 or so, I started to realize I wanted to be doing something else. I didn’t want to be in front of a camera. I was frustrated. I didn’t think I would stop acting, but I didn’t only want to be seen. I felt like I had something to prove. Then I got up early every morning and worked all day long. I didn’t know if I had any more talent than anyone else directing, but I knew I could work hard at it, and so I did.” He later added at one point ” Every single director-actor I talked to, from Warren Beatty to Clint Eastwood and George Clooney, said the biggest mistake they made is not shooting enough footage of themselves.”
However before he started directing and diving into a relationship with Jennifer Garner. (Some people would say she is his rock and straightened him out. He used to have alcohol problems, which he entered rehab for in 2001. Jennifer also gave him three children. 2 daughters and 1 son.) When he is not applying his Doctor skills or looking for another movie to direct you can find him playing poker. He is quite good because he won the California State Poker Championship on June 20th, 2004, and won &356,000 which of course for Affleck isn’t that much money.
Of course it hasn’t all been a road lined with roses for Ben. He did have a very public affair with Jennifer Lopez. (Yes he had two Jennifer’s in his life, quite the coincidence.) It ended badly and they even produced a horrific movie together: “Gigli”. All of this shows that Ben is actually quite a good role model and shows us that we can make mistakes, even if it’s full on in the public eye, and then recover from it. He is now a devout husband, fun loving daddy and fabulous director. With a Doctor’s degree to hang on his wall. He is good at making some fun out of the situation because he said: “This is a spectacular honor for me, Not only for the education, but now I surpass Matt Damon.” He made this crack because in April Matt Damon received a Harvard Arts Medal.
Ben’s mother will be very proud of him. Because she went to Harvard in the end. Affleck explains: “My mother taught public school, went to Harvard and then got her master’s there and taught fifth and sixth grade in a public school. My dad had a more working-class lifestyle. He didn’t go to college. He was an auto mechanic and a bartender and a janitor at Harvard.”
