Gonna be a late night for me but there's now way in hell I can avoid spoilers all day long tomorrow.
Can't wait!!

i love the character, have have read 90% of the conan doyle stuff, watched a lot of the films that have been produced. i appreciate the old basil rathbone films, LOVE the jeremy brett series, have them all on dvd. have not seen even 5 seconds of the new series! i guess i was waiting for public opinion to inform me if it's worthwhile or not. the actors look right though -- and are extremely busy doing other stuff! where would you rate the series within the entire canon of sherlock? it has to be better than the guy Ritchie films. my wife watches downton abbey & doc martin -- which sort of PBS's me out.
the Russian version of sherlock holmes. moriarity is suppose to look like a wolf. that guy really does!

I've never seen the series, either, though I've heard great things. So for me, it's the series that keeps distracting Steven Moffet from devoting proper time to Doctor Who.

sadly, when i head he did it, i immediately thought the same thing! there's all this talk about moffet being creatively drained already. but I'm watching some of Sherlock right now. maybe i'll get hooked

I got hooked after seeing the first season on Netflix. It's a very clever use of Sherlock, placing him in the modern day rather than Victorian Times. The relationship between Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) is really good. It's a buddy story. (Though everyone always assuming they're a gay couple -- a repeated joke throughout the series -- gets pretty old, fast.)
It also takes advantages of a lot of modern editing techniques, such as quick cuts and visualization of ultra-fast problem-solving that can make your head spin if you try to follow it too closely.
If you like Moffat's Doctor Who, I'm sure you'll like Sherlock. Each episode takes an idea or title from the original Sherlock Holmes canon and turns it on its head in some way. So if you're familiar with Doyle's various Holmes cases, you might find it amusing, as long as you don't expect it to follow Doyle too closely. Moriarty is unlike any previous version I've seen, for example. And I especially enjoyed the episode where they introduced The Woman, Irene Adler.

it was a pretty wise choice making him modern. basil rathbone & jeremy brett own the 1890's! i watched it tonite. not bad! they even did their own take on sherlock's *spoilers!* death at death at reichenbach falls. the two actors are fantastic. english actors. are we ever going to catch up? compare any english series with, say, the cast of "friends". yow

About time I can talk about it. I love the series and the third is fantastic. No spoilers until you see an ep, however.
