in a head to head, 'tales from the crypt' (1989-1996) to tales from the darkside (1983-1988), which would you choose? btw, 'tales from the darkside: the movie' really was 'creepshow 3' (although there was a creepshow 3). it's a fact!

That's like trying to choose between Jif and Skippy. All these seem like the same show.

I'm with Tales from the Crypt. It's got more brand recall. But I could really go either way.
A better match would be between Fear Itself and Masters of Horror. Both horror antholologies conceptualized by Mick Garris, but the tone is markedly different. Fear Itself was a little bit lighter, in line with older horror anthologies, while Masters of Horror got way too dark and gory.

That's like trying to choose between Jif and Skippy. All these seem like the same show. There have been times as a kid when I've had nothing to eat but Costco-scale peanut butter (8 pounds worth, my parents wanted me to be independent or something), so I'm more receptive to their subtle differences. By trial of repetition, I'd rather eat spoonfuls of Skippy's than Jif, because Skippy's has a richer roasted taste and a smoother flavor. I'm going with Tales from the Crypt because it works on more levels: A more identifiable, catchier theme; a distinctive and weirdly charming host who summarized the feels, more vivid depictions of horror, and more presence via the names involved. Potential cons: The overall feel is campier. Though, Darkside has the better writing, and catching it on TV late at night would leave me in a more hollow, nihilistic mood. Darkside has the worlds I'd feel more trapped in.

jif is too sugary. and you capsulized my thoughts eloquently. that's what i was trying to say, darkside is better realized, more otherworldly, creepier. like it's been said of 'plan 9 from outer-space', "whenever you watch it, it's 3 in the morning". darkside gives me that same feeling

Gah! I'm being taken to task over the shows AND peanut butter!
sorry baboon, but people are touchy about their horror tv shows & their peanut butter! actually, i just looked & we have that smuckers natural crap, with is basically jif. proctor & gamble sold jif to smuckers because moms wouldn't buy jif after it came out that the board of directors of proctor & gamble were satan worshippers. and we're back to horror again! oh, a friend of mine saw alan sues (from laugh-in) a play a few years ago, and he said he kept yelling about "peanut butter!" every so often. the audience laughed hysterically, of course. what we didn't know, and what i didn't see until today, was that sues was once the spokesman for peter pan peanut butter. what a hoot! they should have spun this off into a 30 minute TV show!
you can trustth kidths! they're peanut butter eaterths!!
