I had always hoped to have a second kid, but it wasn't something my wife and I could agree on. Unfortunately, we are now at what I call the helmet years, as in ....
... so havin a baby at this point might not be such a great idea.
I've been thinking about the idea of fostering. I discussd it with my wife and she likes the idea. I would finally get that second kid and a kid who needs a chance is given a good home. I talked it over with my wife and we're looking at the foster to adopt option.
It's a pretty big process. There's the application, background screening (criminal records, financials, etc), ten hours of classes, and a home screening.
We haven't started the application process yet. Right now, we've still got to get our house in order. One of the things they'll be looking at is the room that the foster child will be living in, so one of the first things we'll be doing is converting our study into a bedroom.

my wife and i were real close to having a second child a while back. she wanted to have one, and i liked process involved in having one. (wink wink nudge nudge!) -- but we're sort of off the idea now. but that would be a great thing to do. to give a child who is already born a good home. if you have to lose your man-cave that's a good reason.

We're thinking we'd like to foster a girl in the 4-8 year range. Or at least a few years younger than our daughter. I think we did a pretty good job with the kid we've got, so we want her to be an influence on the child we bring in rather than the other way around.

You would have the kids for a short time then they would go back to their parents. That could be an emotional roller coaster for you.

You would have the kids for a short time then they would go back to their parents. That could be an emotional roller coaster for you. That's one of the harsh truths about the whole thing. THey do lean towards trying to keep families together. The foster to adoption thing has about a 50/50 ratio. I'd just have to pray we're one of the lucky ones.
