are there things in the incredibly well received j.j. abrams trek world that you aren't crazy about?

I wasn't too crazy about them blowing up Vulcan.
I haven't watched the second movie, yet, but it seems wird that they got Benedict Cumberbatch to play Kahn when the guy's supposed to be a sikh Indian.

Star Trek Into Darkness blew me away... actually, all it did was blow away all the goodwill I had from watching the first movie, which I enjoyed for the most part. Almost every aspect of STID was just plain stupid. I know J.J. Abrams was not a Star Trek fan when he agreed to direct -- he's always been a Star Wars fanboy -- so it's not surprising he didn't have much respect for the material or the philosophical basis for most of the best Star Trek episodes. His version of Star Trek is a thinly veiled Star Wars -- all action, very little thought.

It was a shame to blow all that up.

The Vulcan thing was messed up. I'm still very confused about the timeline.
I do like the casting of Spock, Sulu, Scotty & Checkov...even Sarek. I'm still warming up to Kirk and Uhura...there's just a little something about them that doesn't make me "believe" they're Kirk and Uhura.

The relationship between Spock and Uhura bugs the heck out of me.

yeah, it doesn't bother me to the same extent it does you, but i don't like it. and i haven't been able to 100% fall in with kirk & uhura either. not that they're not extremely talented actors. the rest of the cast, although they're not (except bones) physically like the old actors somehow do a better job getting in their skins. but what bugs the hell out of me are spock's eyes! too expressive. nimoy had the ability to make his eyes go cold like he's dead inside. like a carp! or an insurance salesman

This version of Spock is just too emotional all around. Spock giving in to his human side is supposed to be a big deal. It's not supposed to happen every five minutes.

I'm sure this is to make Spock more "relatable"...which is what every damn studio is doing wit every damn character out there (see Snyder's Superman).

In both cases, they try to make the characters more relatable, they lose the essence of who they are. (They're making the same mistake with Superman inthe comic.)
