funny, i just began reading the 2009 stephen king novel "cell" last week, and the movie version came out this weekend! that's done crazy! limited release in theaters, and it's on netflicks if you wanna pay for it. i had no idea! not his best book certainly, but a real page turner
hey, who's read the dark tower series ? i've pretty much had no interest, but it seems pretty damn popular. what's your opinions on it ? is it worth the time ?
and why is john cusak starting to look like kevin klein ? that's unacceptable

Wow. Those are some pretty big names for such a limited release. The book was pretty good. I've read tons of his stuff, but I need to pick up some of the new stuff he's got out.
The Dark Tower series is pretty good, but the size of it is daunting so I haven't read it all. They're supposed to make some movies. I wish they'd gotten someone more like a young Clint Eastwood than going the stunt-casting route with Idris Ebola or whatever his name is.

i just read "the girl who loved tom gordon". a nine year old girl lost in the weeks for two weeks. i have to agree with this review from goodreads, "i do not have to words to properly express how crappy this book was." well no i wouldn't go that far. but I hated it. it kind of made me want to slap him. cell was much better.

I read that, too I didn't hate it. The thing with King is, he's a wildly talented and insanely prolific writer, so he's got so much stuff going on in his head that you're never sure what you're going to get. If you loved 'The Stand', you might be dissappointed if you buy 'Gerald's Game'.
I recently read a book of his called "Joyland" and it was different than anything else of his I'd read. It had an old, pulp style cover and was about a college student in the 60s working in an amusement park who stumbles across a murder mystery.
He used to write stuff under different pseudonyms when he jumped genres, but I guess his publishers insisted that the Stephen King name sells too much to do that.

gerald's game!!! ugg. could not get thru it. i gave it to a friend thinking it might just be me. he could not get thru it either!
here's some extremely positive & extremely negative reviews:
www.goodreads.com/book/show/32692.Gerald_s_Game
but you're right. he's basically just writing for himself now. he doesn't have to churn out horror just to make a buck, and he has nothing left to prove. i think he did 'the tommyknockers' (terrible title. has nothing to do with the book), just to see if he could write sci-fi.
i haven't read any of the gunslinger stuff. i started both the books he wrote with peter straub, but lost interest. they were writing them monkey alliance round-robin style. trading off chapters. it bugged me i didn't know which author wrote which! and i haven't liked his more recent short story collections. he's said if he could only be remembered for one thing it would be 'the reach' from the collection skeleton crew.
this is interesting:
