ABC is making a return visit to Orbit City with a live-action reboot of The Jetsons, the Hanna-Barbera animated classic that initially aired on the network from 1962 to 1963.

Deadline reports the project, executive produced by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future), received a put-pilot order, which means substantial penalties will be paid if it doesn’t air. Gary Janetti (Will & Grace, Family Guy) will write. Plans for the live-action series, produced by Warner Bros. Television, first surfaced in June.
Set 100 years in the future, where homes and buildings reach into the sky atop adjustable columns, The Jetsons centers on the cantankerous but loving family man George Jetson, his loving wife Jane, their children Judy and Elroy, dog Astro and sassy robot made Rosie. Similar in premise to The Flintstones, the animated comedy frequently divided the action between George’s trials and tribulations as an employee of Spacely Space Sprockets and what awaited him at home, at Skypad Apartments.
The original series aired in primetime from 1962 to 1963 on ABC, with new episodes produced by Hanna-Barbera for syndication more than two decades later. The Jetsons also inspired a pair of television movies, a 1990 theatrical feature and, just earlier this year, the direct-to-DVD The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania!
Earlier this week, DC Comics — which, like the Hanna-Barbera catalog, is owned by Warner Bros. — announced a new Jetsons miniseries.www.cbr.com/jetsons-live-action-tv/
