The ending left me really hopeful about the stories we'll be seeing in the future.

I finally saw it. I wanted to catch up on all the episodes from 2013 before I saw it.
Fantastic special. I am really looking forward to the return of Gallifrey, and I'm hoping that will also mean an exploration into the Doctor's past a bit more, particularly the 1st Doctor's family. We've only ever seen his granddaughter Susan, but he was probably married back then and must have had at least one child during his original run.
Hmmm... so, technically, River Song would be wife #3, wouldn't she, with the revelation of Queen Betty being the Doctor's wife and probably only his second? *SPOILERS*

It really does open up a whole new world of stories for the Doctor. It really would be cool if they used the return of Gallifrey as a way of exploring his past.
As for River being #3, he's over 1000 years old. She could be #30! He might have had a lot of kids beside's Susan's mom or dad, too.

That's true enough. The Doctor is usually portrayed as being above that sort of thing over the years, which makes me think he's only ever fallen in love or married very rarely, though I could be wrong. For all we know, the first Doctor could have been a randy fellow and a womanizer as a younger man, just like William Hartnell was in real life.
I just realized that the Doctor's marrying and then never returning to Queen Bessie is the reason that she considers him her enemy in the David Tennant episode, The Shakespeare Code!!! In fact, in that episode, which shows a much older and angrier Queen Elizabeth, he says something about looking forward to finding out why she considers him her mortal enemy.
