Thanks to this over the air channel that just got added to my area by one of my local affiliates I get to watch all the classic star trek shows on the same network including star trek the animated series The last time star trek the animated series was aired in reruns before showing up on H&I it was previously on the Scifi Channel in the 1990s (Now Syfy of course)

pre-sci-fi conventions, former big name TV stars were happy to do cartoon voice work to supplement their game show and TV movie earnings! hard to believe, but's true. it's fun to speculate that if TREK hadn't hit huge in pop culture, where the shat, nimoy, and the others would have ended up. Oh according to sulu (oh my!), only nimoy, and the shat were originally signed on for the cartoon. the rest of the crew were suppose to be voiced by the regular filmation voice people. well, i'm sure mrs. roddenberry, nurse chapel would have been involved. nimoy said, if you're cutting the minorities that made this show special, then i'm out! i've yet to hear one person say a bad word about leonard nimoy. ol' pointy-ears was a stand up guy from start to finish.

People argue whether or not it's canon because Chekov wasn't in it. WHe did get to write an episode, though. What I liked about it is that since it was a cartoon, they could do a lot of stuff they couldn't in a low-budget live action show and they added more alien-y aliens to the ship's roster.

it's a nice addition to the ST universe. i love walter, but chekov was basically trek's answer to 'the monkees'!

Yeah, it's no small coincidence that when they encountered the space hippies, one of them was Chekov's ex-girlfriend.

that singer was charles napier. he became a sought after character actor who played old cowboys, judges, cops, or whatever. in 1968 he already looked 50!

I was really surprised to see him in that after all the good old boy roles I've seen him in over the years.

it's filmation's crowning achievement. it's shockingly good considering it was produced over 40 yrs ago. probably it's in the top five of any non-comedic cartoon series ever produced. i have it and also "the new adventures of batman" on dvd. TNABM was produced in the late 70's well past filmation's heyday, and it showed. but i love it anyway. no alfred in this one and robin seemed to be in his early 20's. this fun take on the batman series & comics was gay wish fulfillment at it's finest! they were doing everything but going to bath houses together, and listening to the village people! bruce & dick kept seeing bat-mite -- because they were snorting too much blow! he's wasn't really there! they both do housework, and robin's doing the cooking! he makes a peanut-butter sardine casserole once! some scenes are practically gay batman fan fiction.

Its cool that Adam West got to do the voice work for the cartoons. I read that NBC was going to pick up the live action series when it was cancelled, but damn ABC had already destroyed the sets so they passed rather than have to recreate them!

that's what's always been repeated. that NBC wanted batman for a lead-in to it's successful tarzan series, and wanted to pickup batman and make it more serious. scale down the cast, and possible rotate robin & batgirl. but they made a fairly decent batcave for this stupid car wax commercial! maybe they felt they'd lose identification with the ABC series if it was changed.
