Over the past month, Father Time has been bitch slapping me daily.
A few years ago, I had knee surgery on my right knee. Now the left one has gone to hell. It's gotten progressively worse to the point that I'm walking with a cane just to get around. If I step on anything it jars my knee and hurts like hell.
Today, I found myself tooling around Publix in one of those shopping scooters so I wouldn't have to limp around at a painful snail's pace. I used to make fun of anyone under 70 driving one of those. I called them the fatass-mobiles! And here I was driving one. It was actually a little fun. They make that beeping noise when you back up. One snag was when I was in the dairy aisle and the spray butter was on the top shelf. I kept having to yell for my daughter because I did not want to be seen standing up to get it by all the people around me.
I'm going to set up an appointment to see somebody about it tomorrow. I hoped this would heal without surgery, but I don't see that happening now.

Jeez! Don't everyone jump in with words of compassion all at once! I'm walking around like Cotton Hill whenever I forget my cane!"

Thursday, I tried to book an appointment with this sports medicine clinic my dad told me about and they said they weren't taking my insurance, Blue Cross Advantage which is through medicare, because they're not taking new patients who aren't "medicare age".
So here's the review I left them:
This clinic refused to see me because my insurance is through medicare due to disability. Apparently, these doctors have chosen to abandon their Hippocratic oath. By discriminating against those forced to rely on medicare, they are abandoning the most vulnerable and helping to create a new 'separate but equal' system of healthcare. It's a shame they have chosen to put profit ahead of responsibility.
I managed to get an appointment set up for Tuesday with the guy who fixed my right knee. At this point, I've pretty much resigned myself to surgery. Every time I bump my foot or step on anything, I end up hollering like Peter Boil's monster from Young Frankenstein" when he saw fire. That shit gets old fast

sorry baboon. The right one is good now? even for fairly young people the knee tends to be one of the first problems/surgeries you get with joints i hear. i had a fairly painful case of what i guess they call "scrub woman's knee" a few years back. although i never was in the washer woman occupation. it made a "click" sometimes & hurt constantly, but not at the level you're experiencing. cortisone shots and less activity made it go away after a few months. i've noticed fit looking people the last couple of years, in the summer in shorts, with small vertical scars on their knees. some running! but scars are cool. yeah, if it's the best option, get it done. you got a girl kid! you can't scare off douchebags riding in a rascal!

The right one has been good, though it's starting to ache some now from me putting most of my weight on it. When the right one went bad, I felt a pain in my knee cap like it was going to explode outward when I did leg presses at the gym..
I'm not sure what happened this time. I did slip in mud walking back from the gym and land on it, but several days went by before I felt anything.

Yeah, it's butter you can spray on your veggies, waffles, and stuff. You Aussies don't have spray butter? It's good!
Besides, you guys eat vegemite!

My orthopedic guy gave me some prescription anti-inflammatory that almost makes me forget I'm injured until I turn the wrong way and come down on it too hard. THen I remember, by God!
I had an MRI done yesterday. As I'm going into the MRI tunnel thing feet first, it hits me. "Am I about to expose my junk to high levels of radiation?

I went to see my orthopedic guy a few days ago about the MRI. It turns out I've got a tear running all the way through my meniscus. Dammit! I thought I was getting better, but that was just the anti-inflammatory giving me some pain relief temporarily. It's actually coming back now. I'm going in for surgery on Wednesday.

oh sh-t, sorry baboon. i had to took up to see what a meniscus was! damn. a girl i work with, she's only 20, she hydroplaned in her truck during a rainstorm on a bridge the other day and tore herself up bad. i'm sure was driving too fast. and from what i hear, for her seat belts are largely optional. in phone pics i saw, her truck looks like it was t-boned by a semi! her face was cut & beat up, but she'll obviously still be pretty when it heals up. she has a damaged leg and her pelvis was broken in two places, and went into surgery. she's a bit of a ballbuster. i can only imagine what kind of patient she'll be. i feel sorry for the nurses! it's way too easy to get hurt in this life.

Ironically, if I'd been driving, I'd be okay. My doctor and I both think I did it walking back from the gym when I slipped in mud and landed on it.

Besides, you guys eat vegemite! But we don't spray either butter or vegemite. Besides, there's an art to eating vegemite. Mebbe I need to start a thread "Food us Aussies eat". Our hamburger with the lot will astound you!
