Yeah, it really is a shame. Especially if it wins.
Think how great this is for African American kids of this generation. Growing up. you and I had characters like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and Captain America. Black kids didn't really have any super heroes who looked like them on tv or in the movies. Only hardcore fans even new there were a handful of black super heroes.
Now, between Black Panther in the movies and Black Lightning on tv, black kids finally have super heroes they can identify with.

that and obama, whatever someone might think of his presidency, is good in that respect. it'll almost certainly not win though. funny, a couple of people around my age who i mentioned this to immediated assumed I was wrong and superman(1978) had been nominated for best picture. i had to tell them no! it never could have stood a chance back then. not a chance. horsesh-t like kramer vs kramer was winning oscars back then! and i apologize, cause i ain't seen it.

"Black Panther" did pretty well at the Screen Actors Guild awards. It was nominated in a bunch of categories and won something like "Best ensemble cast", beating out a bunch of big contenders like "A Star is Born" and "Bohemian Rhapsodie".
