Everything sucks now. Even anime sucks now. It's because the entertainment industry started targeting the tween demographic.
To hit the sweet spot of interesting shows, you either target kids or you target adults (which, surprisingly, tend to overlap.) These days they're trying to cater to people who think they've outgrown kiddie shows, while lacking the necessary wisdom and experience to fully appreciate stuff meant for adults. The end result is very niche, awkward shows that get outdated real fast.
