It looks like the 13th Doctor will be regenerating on October 23. Two classic companions, Ace and Tegan, will be guest starring as well. Whether she regenerates into Ncuti Gatwa, the new Doctor picked by Russell T Davies, remains to be seen. There is a special later in the year starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate, so some re speculating that she will regenerate back into David Tennant first. How likely that is remains to be seen.

I doubt that she's going to re-regenerate into Tennant. Tennant is a bit on the artsy-fartsy side, and he probably feels going back to being a Doctor is a career regression (although unlike Eccleston, he doesn't have bad blood with the franchise and its producers, so he's down for guestings.) But I would love to be wrong. My first Doctor was Tennant and he's my second favorite right next to Smith. From Tennant, went back to Eccleston and then to Smith and Capaldi. Even gave Whittaker a chance - because I actually find her attractive, and she has acting chops (unfortunately, she got saddled with poor writers and showrunners.)
I also liked David Morrissey as a doctor, even though he wasn't technically THE doctor.
I don't like Ncuti Gatwa as a doctor, and I'm not even going to give the new series a chance because the fandom has become so toxic to the point where any criticism levied against the show, valid or not, is dismissed as misogyny or racism. I'll just accept that I'm no longer the target audience.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate are coming back for a special with Neil Patrick Harris as the villain. It's what has led to the speculation about her regenerating into him. In the set pictures, he's wearing a strangely altered version of his old get-up.
I'll check out Gatwa's Doctor, but with serious reservations. I figured the new Doctor wouldn't be a white guy, but with him it feels like stunt casting. He was good in "Sex Education", so I'm hoping for the best.

I have a lot of catching up to do. I kind of dropped off midway through the guy after Smith (who along with Tennant are my favourite New Doctors).

i was kind of the same way. smith was my first modern doctor. as far as my kid is concerned he is the doctor. the others piss her off. i didn't think much of clara oswald until this episode. then i fell in love with her.

I'm a bit hot and cold on the Clara character. I liked her when she first appeared as a Dalek, then liked her again when she appeared in different time periods and then again when she became a full-fledged companion of Smith. I disliked her when she got herself a boyfriend, but mostly because her boyfriend was poorly written and it rubbed off on her, especially when her boyfriend died (while crossing the street, like an idiot) and she kept taking her anger out on the doctor. It reached its zenith when she betrayed the doctor, but on the other hand, it led to one of my favorite Capaldi scenes: "Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?"The scene perfectly encapsulates one of the reasons why I love the doctor as a character. How he can be so angry and so kind at the same time. Smith also has multiple scenes that embody the same energy, like the one on the Beast Below when he got so mad because humanity tortured a Star Whale just to survive ("nobody human has anything to say to me today!") and he had no choice but to mercy kill the Star Whale. Tennant, on the other hand, had a different kind of feel as a doctor. He felt more like a goofy fun-loving boyfriend-material doctor that was teetering on the edge of going full on dark, as seen in Water of Mars - "Timelord Victorious" or when he punished the family of blood.

This is a good weekend to do it. BBC America always has a marathon for the few days before any special.
