www.yahoo.com/news/many-black-americans-speak-african-100249141.htmlSo some schools are starting to back away from teaching proper English to kids and calling slang “black English?” What’s the point to this? Not teaching the proper way to speak and giving them the thumbs up for using slang is a disservice to these kids, they are not doing them any favors. Good luck speaking slang in a job interview and in the real world. And the article says it’s not slang, it’s a different kind of English. No, it’s slang, pure and simple. And one example of “black English” is saying Yo instead of Hello. Black English? Decades ago when I was in college, any time somebody knocked on my door, I answered Yo! I think I got it from Rocky or old World War II movies. Go ahead and use slang, but be taught the correct way to speak. Don’t pat kids on the back for not doing it right. And I thought Ebonics died 30 years ago.

I remember when they were pushing Ebonics as a real thing. The world said 'that's stupid' and it went away. I can't believe this is coming around again.

I just don’t get it. It seems obvious to teach the proper way to speak and not to coddle kids speaking slang and pretending it’s a variation of language to be respected. No. It’s slang.
Learn to do it right if you expect to get anywhere. And what if some kid uses his slang “language” to a future employer, is that guy supposed to know what he’s saying? There’s too much tip-toeing around dumb stuff like this to try not to look racist or sexist (in the swim team case) and it’s beyond tiresome.

My ex father-in-law sounds exactly like Boomhower from "King of the Hill". He'd be in great shape if they started doing that for southerners. You get the guy excited about something and talking fast, you can't understand a damn thing he's saying!
