Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, weeping angels, the Silence, the crack in the wall... they pretty much threw in evrything but the kitchen sink for Matt Smith's final episode. I thought it was interesting how they tied in so much of what happened in Matt Smith's run. It answered why the Church of the Silence had it in for the Doctor, why they didn't want him to answer the oldest question in the universe, and what the real story was with the crack in the wall. It also made full use of the fact that this was the last time we'd be seeing the 11th Doctor by having him live a full life on Trenzalore and allowing us to see him age. All in all, the llth Doctor would have been the Doctor for over 600 years after this episode.
My only quibble is that we should have seen him change as an old man when all the big explosive regeneration stuff was going on. Having him turn back into a young man for a brief goodbye with Clara and Amy and then a quick change to Capaldi was a little anti-clamactic.

Clara's mother reminded me of Donna's mother.

Clara's parents are dead, so she must have been an aunt or something. She reminded me of her, too, though.
I loved how the Doctor forgot to make them able to see him with clothes, too.

oh yeah, the leaf thing. she doesn't have parents anymore. I forgot about that because I skipped the episodes after the Ponds left (not because of companion preference. I just felt that the early clara episodes were weak.)

They definitely weren't as good as the Amy & Rory years. It's a shame Matt Smith could't at least have held on for another year to let her become more established.

The leaf thing - basically if it wasn't for that leaf, her mother and father wouldn't have met.
I like Clara, even during her first appearance as the Dalek. It's just that by the time she appeared as a human, her personality wasn't that different from Amy's, like they were building her up as another companion with a crush on the doctor. I've had enough of it even with Rose (which is why I loved Donna as a companion. She wasn't googly-eyed at the doctor, and was more of a friend, or rather an equal.)

The Name of the Doctor was a really cool episode. I loved her interactions with all the old Doctors. I don't think there was any romantic relationship between Clara and the Doctor so much s a really strong friendship. They definitely wouldn't want to take it in that direction now that the Doctor is going to be so much physically older than Clara.
The funny thing about Donna was, not only wasn't she crushing on him. She wan't even physically attracted to him! From the episodes, it looked as if she liked her men like she liked her coffee.

i liked that about "name of .." too. it's nice that they've used that sort of thing sparingly so that we really appreciate it when it happens

Yeah it's more special when they use it sparingly, but it's a great moment for fans. The way they did it in Day of the Doctor was pretty cool, too, having all the Doctors taking part in saving Gallifrey.

finally saw 'time of the doctor' tonite. I've been saving it. not sure how I felt about it. great old age make-up on matt smith though. 'church of the silence' -- they were great. but somehow, I expected more. the amy goodbye seemed like an add on. i didn't think it was worthy of their prior relationship. and I would like to have seen donna & rory at least.

It did seem like if they had Amy, they should have had Rory. Yeah, he was close with Amy, but he'd developed a pretty strong friendship with Rory, too. ANd the two kind of go together.
Seeing River might have made sense, too. She's dead, he's dying....
I guess this is the first doctor since the first to die of old age.

i was gunna watch it again to see if i got any new impressions, but my wife deleted it! she's picky about anything that's HD because of space. okay, i just found it on dailymotion. you know, i actually like the (much complained about) abrupt change to capaldi. another long, things exploding like when the highlander kills a guy, change would have been too comparable to david tennant's change to matt smith. it would've been a mistake, i think, to try and make it bigger, then bigger still in each regeneration as the years pass. i'm not sure how i feel about the smith's doctor being planet-bound for 300 years. it certain was unique. but like it or not it's part of the doctor's history now, no changing it. the time and aging thing had me confused -- and kinda does still. look at this & tell me whatcha think

Both those explanations make good sense.
The last incarnation one makes me wonder about the Master. If he was on his last incarnation in the old series, then how did he come bck for the new one? Of course, I didn't see that episode, so they may have handled the regeneration problem then. (I sure hope the Master returns now tha Gallifrey is out of the Time Lock.)
