There's currently a kickstarter program for a new series set in the original universe. It seems to bridge the gap between Kirk and Picard's time because the trailer has Chekov and Tuvoc. I'd think they'd have made a more dramatic trailer to stir interest in the project.
I've heard Michael Dorn has been trying to shop around a Captain Worf pilot, too. I'd definitely watch that.

I'd definitely watch that. crazy as it sounds baboon, i would too, in a heartbeat. i wonder how widespread this sort of thing is? i know before the recent galactica, a test pilot of the old show was filmed & shopped around |

Yeah, I'd heard Richard Hatch was kind of pissed that he spent all those years trying to get Galactica brought back and then they do a total reboot. Well, he was pissed until they gave him a part in it.
