Anyone reading this? Great plot and excellent dialogue.
Cyclops has formed a rogue team of Xman and a rival school (the Charles Xavier School). He now believes in mutant liberation and has essentially bought into Magneto's line about humans and mutants not being able to peacefully interact.
Wolverine, Beast and the others don't like this but don't want ot confront him and start a mutant v mutant war. Anyway, its the Avengers who are looking for Cyclops etc. because Cyclops killed Charles Xavier while Cyclops was possessed by the Phoenix Force (I gather Bendis inherited this over-the-top plot line).
Beast decides to torment his friend for what he has done. To that end, he essentially goes back to 1962 (they are abit loose on the dates, but that's the sense you get from the clothes and the very young ages) and brings forward in time the original X-men.
Each of them deals with the future in a different way. Young Cyclops swears he will never abandon Xavier's dream, is mortified by what his future self has done, and by how the school hates him. Jean Grey is blown away by learning she is dead. Iceman and his older self generally freak each other out. Beast and his older self get on swimmingly. Most disturbing is Angel. Angel's older self seems slightly autistic and can't remember why his wings are now metal. This really really bothers the younger Angel. (I'm gathering there is some sort of post-traumatic disorder happening here following Angel's transformation into Archangel back in the day by Apocalypse).
Cyclops, Magneto, Emma Frost and Magik are at the other school. All of their powers are malfunctioning because of their interaction with the Phoenix Force. But this doesn't stop them from trouncing the Avengers when one of the new mutants (Tempus) traps the Avengers in a time bubble. Cyclops goes on YouTube and lays a slapdown. After, the Avengers "don't want to talk about it". Funny.
