well, picture it, about 6 yrs ago. my best freind john, a then 24 y.o. maintenance man part time bouncer (i was best man at his wedding 4 yrs ago & he's frigging divorcing as we speak) myself, another friend of john's, and a guy who lived in john's complex (a 29th degree d&d grand wizard or whatever, who looked i swear like a cross between zach galifianakis and a hobbit -- not kidding) had begun meeting twice a week to play dungeons & dragons. we did it in the grand wizard guy's filthy apartment, and his bathroom was full of beard shavings. guess he didn't feel the need to clean up for us. our main problem however, aside from the beard shavings, my freind john set up the challenges. and he went so hard core, that by the time we rolled past any challenge, we were all half-dead or dying. we were just basket cases. finally we stopped. having nothing else to do, we began meeting and watching john's (then) girlfriends dvds of gto: great teacher onizukao. these, my first real taste of anime, were kind of wonderful in a strange way. gto was like a cross between 'welcome back cotter' and chuck norris. he wanted to do good, but he found it hard to avoid the temptation of teenage asian gurls who constantly threw themselves at him. plus, he he felt compelled to kick almost everyone's ass. anyway, this was a fun time in my life. i miss gto, and also the 2 nites a week of male bonding & the drinking

They probably did. I saw a lot of images on the internet that looked pretty current.

When i first saw this in 2009 I couldn't stop laughing at random episodes even when Onizuka kept pissing off that principal

Funny. He doesn't look anything like the animated version.
