Its a long way from The Thin White Duke. Music critics generally agree that Bowie sold out around this time, with Lets Dance. I suspect he just got clean.

That was basically premise of the movie "Velvet Goldmine". And they wondered why he wouldn't let them use his music in it.

It is vintage Bowie to my mind. I bought Reality out of curiosity (I was stuck in Byron Bay with my daughter after the festival - we missed our bus and had to wait in the park with our stuff for a few hours so time to kill) and only remember it being novel for his cover of Jonathan Richman's song "Pablo Picasso" 'He would drive down the street in his Eldorado/Girls could not resist his stare/Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole/Not like you!'
Clearly he's taken the last decade to craft a record worth the fuss.

I was really surprised to see he did a cover of Pablo Picasso!
I think my favorites of his old stuff are "Starman" and "Life on Mars".
