A thread about random facts that I stumble upon that you might not otherwise read in the news.

While uniforms for early soldiers were based on cost and utility, soldiers' clothing eventually considered ballistic protection, increasing storage space, protection from poison gas and other contaminants. Today designers of soldier systems are considering future uniforms with wearable communications and displays, embedded computing, air-conditioned armor, and a variety of eye and skin protection.
