y'know, ST:the motion picture was beautifully filmed, but as a film really sucked. that aside, the uniforms looked comfy as hell. space 1999 comfy!

Of course they were comfy. They looked like pajamas!
My favorites would have to be the ones te original crew wore from the second movie on up and then the ST:TNG univorms worn after the second season that had collars.

baboon, i don't know why you have a problem with this! yer in space, there are romulans & sh-t everywhere -- why not be comfy?! and you could tuck away in the engine room at any time & take a quick power nap -- to stay alert. wait, is chekov waering underwear ?

Chekov looks like he has the shits real bad and he wishes Kirk would shut up and end the meeting so he can get to the john before it's too late. There's another reason the pajama uniforms are less practical than the maroon jackets with the black pants!

I can't help but notice how slim James Doohan (Scotty) is in this movie compared with the ones from the '80s. He really ballooned up when he got older, but it must've happened sometime between the first movie and the second. William Shatner also gained a bit of weight before the second, but it's not as noticeable.

When I read William Shatner's memoirs, he told how he really busted his butt to get into shape before the first movie. I guess he didn't work quite so hard in the later ones. I think James Doohan was one of the older cast members, so he might've gotten more of that middle aged girth before the others.

That makes sense. I know that the first Star Trek movie was supposed to take place only three years after the end of the show, instead of the more than ten years that actually passed during that time, so it's no wonder Shatner was trying to look more like he did in the early '70s. And then the second, third, and fourth instalments all took place ten years after the first movie, according to the timeline. And yeah, I think James Doohan had at least a decade or more on all the other cast members, and he was tough as nails for real. He was there among the Allied troops on D-Day, where he was shot six times that day but lived to tell about it. The crazy thing about it was that it was all "friendly fire" from his fellow Canadian troops, and not the enemy Germans who shot at him! He took one shot to the chest that would have been fatal, if it hadn't been for a silver cigarette case in his shirt pocket that he'd got from his brother! www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/11/the-actor-who-played-scotty-on-star-trek-was-shot-six-times-on-d-day/

doohan also taught acting, and was a dialect specialist. he would've gotten work with or without trek. Back then a lot of people did really crappy accents for movies & tv. but from what i've read, scotty's accent is considered pretty good. here's a quote i just found, "doohan's accent is generic but accurate. In the same way that David Tennant's English accent is generic." oh doc, i believe 'the shat' busted his butt to get in shape for st:tmp -- he's positively svelte!

He said he did a lot of horseback riding. There must be something to that. My wife I a lot of horseback riding when we were dating and she was a size 2. I should have created a damn horse fund so she was always riding.
