Anybody else into this? It's from Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, based on the novel of the same name (which was also adapted to comic book format.) The missus introduced me to it, and it's been tiding me over while waiting for the Walking Dead/American Horror Story/Doctor Who. It's about a Vampire apocalypse, except they're not portraying vampires as the romantic, sparkly kind. The Vampires are anything but beautiful. The main one is an 11-foot monstrosity that looks like a cross between a leech, a bat, and that shrouded death-thing from the Frighteners. Extremely intelligent and malicious, but not to the point of turning into caricatures like Doctor Doom or the Joker.
And being turned into a vampire is not Anne Rice-y. It works like a highly contagious viral infection. The transformation is slow, ugly, and very painful. I also love that they somewhat grounded the explanation for why silver and sunlight kills them. I read half of the comic series and even the reason for why they can't cross large bodies of water are explained. It's nice. The protagonists are CDC employees and an elderly pawnshop owner who was a refugee from the nazi concentration camps. It's fairly layered stuff.
