Matt Smith has joined the cast of horror-comedy Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The former Doctor Who actor will portray Mr Collins, according to The Hollywood Reporter, alongside his girlfriend Lily James who is playing the lead in the adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel.
The project – which was first rumoured back in 2009 – is finally set to begin shooting on 24th September, with an exciting British cast also including Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, Sam Riley and Bella Heathcoate.
Directed by Burr Steers (17 Again), the film is a twist on Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice and follows Liz Bennet (James) as she's pressurised by her mother into marrying into the wealthy upper classes. But, thanks to martial arts training from her father, Liz and her sisters are far better suited to defending the English countryside from the grips of a horrifying zombie plague.
Riley will star as Fitzwilliam Darcy – a haughty monster hunter – with Booth playing the eligible Mr Bingley and Huston as the devious Wickham.
Smith has been busy pursuing a film career since bidding farewell to Doctor Who last Christmas. He'll star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River next year and has just finished filming a major role in Terminator: Genisys opposite Emilia Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
