okay, let's get this party started. 'halloween' was of course a masterpiece. no disputing it. loved 'big trouble in little china', loved 'the fog', loved 'escape from n.y.', heck i even loved halloween 3 which everyone hates, and carpenter didn't even direct. (like hell he didn't!)
i love his bizarre casting choices. roddy piper in 'they live'? (jezus! but it worked) james woods as a vampire killer? the 'simon & simon' guy with a mustache in 'prince of darkness'? that atkins guy with a mustache in 'the fog' and 'halloween 3' who nobody else in hell would ever give a starring role in a movie to? nobody! oh, and his creative use of kurt russell in clint eastwood type roles was incredibly ballsy. the thing? very very very good. i wish someone would explain some of it to me, but a really great film. but his best film? prince of darkness.
i said it, and i'm not taking it back!

he's created a couple of awesome cult classics in "Escape from New York" and "They Live". Prince of Darkness was good. I remember being really creeped out when I saw it. but my favorite is "They Live".
His best all time character is Snake Plissken.

my only gripes with 'they live', the female lead is so strange, you almost suspect her right away. but i like the actress though. she was in one of my favorite films, 'the emerald forest'
and that overly long fight scene between roddy & the black guy. was that comically long on purpose? it's too bad carpenter didn't keep using roddy in films after that

Dang, reading about that fight scene makes me want to see the movie again!
Was Rowdy Roddy Piper even in any more movies?
