i assumed i'd drop a bunch of lbs this summer and it just ain't working. and it's august already! dog doo doo! this is scaring me a little bit. in the past I could lose weight because of weight loss competitions at work -- involving cash! the lure of free money seems to be the only thing that will allow me to find my inner dj qualls
i got roughly 6 weeks of summer left -- which was about the length of my old weight loss competitions. my father has a home gym which I can go over and use -- sort of a fitness museum with weird treadmills and old timey hand weights! i got a friend at work who's been giving me gold's gym free passes. a 30 year old tall black guy with a very deep voice who is gay! nice guy, but not a good gym buddy. he's built like a thin wesley snipes in blade and is no help to me since he pounds down donuts in the break room all day long and doesn't gain an ounce. if my wife gains weight she just stops eating. just stops! luckily, my kid is a stick and didn't inherit my fat genes. throw anything you've got at me! anything but swallowing a tapeworm. i really don't want to use atkins, but it may be my only option. and i may have to choose between beer and food. i probably can't have both. c'mon and make me pretty again!

My wife convinced me to do "the Whole 30," which basically involves eating absolutely no processed foods (no breads and dairy, mostly -- and sadly, no beer, either), and eating only "Paleo" approved foods, AKA meats and greens. It was tough-going, but we both lost 10 pounds over the course of a month. We've fallen off the wagon a bit when summer arrived, but we've been eating less processed food than usual, and no sugary drinks at all -- just water -- and that, combined with a lot of biking, has helped me keep fairly fit over the last few months.
So, that worked for us. You could try it, but it takes dedication, and completely changing the way you eat.

changing the way you eat, that's the hard part. meat and greens, that's kind of the weightlifter's diet. i've seen one that expounds water and tuna. nothing else! i've been doing a lot of fairly hard walking (not power walking, which looks odd) with some running thrown in. i used to do a ton of biking, but just between us pimps, i felt like it was affecting my junk
www.livestrong.com/article/468837-testicle-damage-from-cycling/
The best way to prevent testicle damage from cycling is to choose a bike seat that fits properly. The wide back of your bike seat is meant to contact directly with your ischial tuberosities, which are the hard bones you feel when you sit down. If your seat is too narrow, your ishial tuberosities will slip over the outside edges, pressing the middle of your seat and the nose into your pudendal nerve and testicles.
pudendal nerve? ghaaaa!!!!! it may have just been in my head. but i did feel like i was getting knocked around too much. but aside from that and the risk of serious injury when you hit a pebble, or death by buick, it's good exercise and i miss it. stationary bikes seem to work okay for me. but so boring. i'm going to pick a program this week and follow it to the bitter end. i'll look into the 'whole thirty', thanks!!!

My nephews are in from Beijing, so I've been slacking off for the last 5 weeks because we've been doing a lot of visiting and eating out. I'm going to ge back to dieting and regular exercise when they leave this week.
I don't want to get anywhere near a scale for a while. It could be soul crushing. I had lost over 60 lbs.

Get out and exercise hard for about twenty minutes every night after dinner, get hot and sweaty. You could do this by walking fast or bike riding or join a gym and do cardio every night. Then watch what you eat after you exercise. It worked for me as I have lost I lost twenty-five pounds this year And I am gonna lose more weight!

I'm about the same height. I went from 215 to 205 in one month on The Whole 30 + biking in June, and I'm still hovering around 205 a month and a half later. My wife wants to do it again in September, and I told her I'll support her, but I'm not going to follow it strictly. I'll eat what she makes for dinner (some of the meals are quite delicious), but I'm still having the occasional sandwich and/or beer.

i'm going to try it -- i'd love to be 205. 6 lbs from 199! as always, i'm going to start my diet with something stupid & try to do "tuna & water" for 3 days. (water? substituted with diet 7-up), actually, i'll be lucky to manage one. but every successful diet i've ever had started out with one fasting day. i think it makes me accept hunger better www.livestrong.com/article/306384-results-of-the-tuna-water-diet/

When I started my diet, I had ballooned to 285. I got down to 224. I wanted to lose another 10 to 15 pounds. Hopefully, I haven't done too much damage during my break. For the prior six months, my routine was a smoothie with protein powder and creatin for breakfast in the morning and having chicken or fish and a green vegetable for lunch and dinner. I'd also work out 2-3 hours 4 or 5 days a week... weights, cardio, and core training. I'll start back the day after tomorrow.

durn baboon, you were a chunk! good job! i hit 270-something once many years back, but i was still young enough to get it off fairly easily. but in a strange way, i think afterward i sort of missed the gravity. being a guy there is some odd thing about feeling BIG. there are people i know and have known who's persona is built around them being 'that big guy'. losing weight for their health vs their self image has got to be a difficult choice. take tor johnson for example. we're all thinking the same thing. what size pants is he waering ?

I guess there is something to being the big guy. What's weird is that I've always been sort of a gym rat, so I was still lifting weights even while I was eeating everything in sight. After losing all that weight, I looked better, but my strength went down.
Another thing about losing weight.... I own a number of Hawaiian shirts. For some reason, I didn't have the urge to put them on this summer. There must be something about being a fat guy that makes you want to wear Hawaiian shirts.

the truth is, a big man just looks good in an hawaiian shirt!
the generous proportions of a gentleman of size makes a perfect canvas for it's exotic beauty. it never really did anything for hawkeye
but somehow jack lord manages to pull it off
but yeah, you definitely lose strength while dieting. and even later when eating sensibly. you've never felt better in your damn life than after you've nearly emptied a half gallon of cookie dough ice-cream. it's like hour-man taking a power pill

I lost weight by exercising and eliminating foods like candy, soda, ice cream and cake. I cut way back on foods like pasta, and potatoes and rice as they have carbs and carbs turn to sugar. I started eating more salads with low calorie vinaigrettes. I mostly drink ice tea or water or low calorie drink mixes.
I also have more money now that I have stopped hitting the vending machines and the fast food places as much. I skip Burger King and get an extra comic book or two.

that's great! good job. i've been doubling up in the walking\(some)running, and i think I've dropped a little. but i'm afraid to weigh
whew. i love burger king. the sweets aren't much of a problem for me anymore, but I like having a few brews when i get the chance. and stuff like micholob ultra just tastes like nothing. i work near a popeyes chicken, and if you've ever had popeyes with a couple of IPAs ... so good.
one of my pals out of state says go carb free and switch to vodka! it's worked for him. no carbs! i don't know. as a dad i don't want to be running around "day drunk". although there is something magical about it. what i'm gonna do ?
